The Hengill area near Reykjavik is one of Iceland's most powerful, impressive geothermal zones.  This hiking trail skirts the Hengill volcano so you can hike from the hot springs of Nesjavellir geothermal area to Reykjadalur (the Valley of Steam).  On the way explore an incredible variety of geothermal marvels, including colorful steam vents and bubbling mud pits.  In Reykjadalur the geothermal waters heat a river where you can enjoy a relaxing bath before continuing on to the trail's end, near Hveragerdi village.  

Wear: warm clothes, waterproof hiking boots, wind and rain proof outerwear.  
Bring:  bathing suit, towel and packed lunch
Note:  No changing area at geothermal river.  

Minimum age:  12 years old
