Evening departure from North America.
Early morning arrival in Iceland. We suggest the Flybus Plus airport transfers for your transfer from Reykjavik which includes drop-off and pick-up at your hotel. These transfers can be purchased during the booking process from $48 per person round-trip. Once you have arrived in the city, the remainder of your day is open for your own activities. For a very Icelandic way to shake off the jetlag, we suggest a visit to one of the local geothermal pools! You might also explore Old Town Reykjavik, a prime location for charming buildings, cafes and museums; or a walk to the nearby Pearl attraction for a great view overlooking the city. We highly recommend trying one of the many day & afternoon tours available for booking such as whale watching, horseback riding or a culinary walking tour, just to name a few.
Enjoy your morning breakfast (included at all advertised hotels except Icelandair Hotel Reykjavik Natura, Icelandair Hotel Reykjavik Marina, Hilton Reykjavik Nordica and Grand Hotel Reykjavik), then make your way outside to the front entrance of your hotel 9:45am for departure on the Gullfoss, Geysir and Thingvellir day tour tour (pick-ups begin at 10:00am).
The Gullfoss and Geysir bus tour takes you on a day trip to see the world-famous Geysir geothermal area and Gullfoss, the queen of Icelandic waterfalls, as well as Thingvellir National Park.
The Geysir geothermal area boasts spouting springs, including Strokkur, the most active geyser in Iceland. At Gullfoss you are given the opportunity to stand next to the amazing waterfall, watching enormous quantities of water tumble violently into a deep, meandering gorge. Plus, you'll spend your time encountering a cross-section of Iceland's natural wonders and geological phenomena at Thingvellir National Park, an area of historical and geological significance.
If weather conditions are right, you'll enjoy the show of a lifetime later that evening as you experience the northern lights dancing overhead in the night sky on a Northern Lights By Boat tour. Hunting the northern lights from the ocean is an amazing experience; sailing away from the coastline of Reykjavik and seeing the aurora borealis out on the North-Atlantic ocean with beautiful mountains and the city lights in the background is something you won't forget!
Overalls are provided on-board that will keep you nice and warm out on the deck, listening to what the guide has to say about the lovely colours dancing in the sky. Because northern lights viewing can get cold in the nighttime hours, consider bringing a warm, windproof coat, hat and gloves to further stave off the elements!
Please take note because the northern lights are a natural phenomenon and sightings cannot be guaranteed. Refunds or reductions in price are not granted if they're not seen the evening of your northern lights hunt.
Today is open for your own activities. Perhaps you'll want to take on a different side of Iceland with an adventerous visit to the South Shore. There are also many rewarding experiences like hiking, snowmobiling, caving and snorkeling, or even something completely different like a cooking class or helicopter sightseeing. Check out our tours & add-ons to book any one of the many exciting day adventures available to you.
Breakfast at your hotel (included at all advertised hotels except Icelandair Hotel Reykjavik Natura, Icelandair Hotel Reykjavik Marina, Hilton Reykjavik Nordica and Grand Hotel Reykjavik) with the rest of your morning open for your own activities. Transfer to Keflavik airport for your late afternoon departure to North America.
