Day 1 - Departure Day
Evening departure from North America.
Day 2 - Arrival Day
Early morning arrival in Iceland. Use the Flybus airport transfer voucher from your Booking Confirmation to transfer to your hotel in Reykjavik. A welcome pack with information concerning your journey will be provided for you at the hotel at the time of check-in. Please note that breakfast is not included on your arrival day, and early check-in is not guaranteed. If your room is not ready, you can store your luggage at the hotel.
Day 3 - Waterfalls, Geysers, Cliffs, Stone Arches, Black Sand Beaches of the South Shore
After an early morning car rental pickup at Hertz Car Rental, start the day with a remarkable visit to Gullfoss waterfall and Geysir hot spring area. Continue to highlights of the South Coast such as Seljalandsfoss and Skogafoss waterfalls, the infamous Eyjafjallajokull glacier and surrounding area (location of the 2010 eruption) and Dyrholaey, a rocky headland where thousands of sea birds and puffins nest during the summer. Please note that Dyrholaey is usually closed during nesting season in the spring, from middle of May through June 23rd. Total distance covered approximately 200 miles (330 km).
Day 4 - Europe's Largest National Park, Glacial Lagoon with Icebergs, Europe's Largest Glacier
Visit the amazing Skaftafell National Park nestled between glaciers offering many hiking possibilities. Continue to the shimmering icebergs of Jokulsarlon Glacial Lagoon before your night in the region of Vik, Kirkjubæjarklaustur or Skaftafell. Total distance covered approximately 240 miles (385 km).
Day 5 - National Park of Geological Wonders (UNESCO), Europe's Most Powerful Hot Spring
Drive to Thingvellir National Park, a jewel of nature that includes the original site of the oldest parliamentary institution in the world, Althing. The park, a stunning volcanic landscape of mountains and lava flows, is situated on the border of Iceland's largest lake. Continue to Borgarfjordur fjord and visit the historic site of Reykholt, the remarkably beautiful Hraunfoss and Barnafoss waterfalls and Deildartunguhver, the most powerful hot spring in Europe. Total distance covered approximately 250 miles (400 km).
Day 6 - Sea Cliffs with Birdlife, Rock Formations, Quaint Fishing Villages
Explore the countless natural wonders of the Snaefellsnes peninsula. Visit Arnarstapi sea cliffs with its varied birdlife and the rocky beach of Djupalonssandur before driving along the north coast through lively fishing villages. Total distance covered approximately 200 miles (330 km).
Day 7 - Volcanic Landscapes, Bubbling Mud Pools, Quaint Fishing Village, Geothermal Spa
Drive to Reykjanes peninsula and visit the moon-like surrounding of Lake Kleifarvatn and Krysuvik geothermal area with bubbling mud pools. Visit Grindavik fishing village and the famous Blue Lagoon for a relaxing dip in the pleasantly warm geothermal waters which are known to be rich in silica and minerals that are great for the skin. Drop off your car in the afternoon at Hertz Car Rental before enjoying your last night in Reykjavik. Total distance covered approximately 100 miles (170 km).
Day 8 - Departure Day
Start the morning with a Scandinavian buffet breakfast, included as part of your hotel stay. The remainder of your morning is open for own activities. Use the Flybus airport transfer voucher from your Booking Confirmation to transfer to Keflavik airport for your late afternoon departure to North America.
A list of your accommodations (which range from country hotels, guesthouses, summer hotels to farm holiday guesthouses) will be sent with your trip confirmation up to a few weeks after you have booked. Properties used, ranging from independently owned properties to chains such as FossHotel and Hotel Edda, may vary based on departure date, but will be of a similar standard, and include private bathrooms. Please note that your room may not be ready for immediate check-in, as guaranteed early check-in is not included in packages. The first and last night of your vacation are in the capital Reykjavik, with all other nights spent along your driving route.
Note: We strongly advise to not book tour add-ons during days 3-7. You will be staying overnight in the countryside on these days, and add-ons are based on pick-ups and drop-offs in Reykjavik. You will receive information from us with suggestions of activities to do on your arrival and departures dates, including contact information for booking them in Iceland. We recommend arranging such activities once you have arrived in Iceland.
